Émigré
Did you see that man looking out across the bay
In the dawning as the sun kissed the sky?
He was longing for the places that he left so far away
When the springtime of his life passed him by.
And his thoughts flowed in streams
Over drifting, fading dreams,
A world apart compared to you and me.
For we are young and life is ours
To live and love, be free...
No trace of the finality
That that old man can see.
Did you see that man looking out across the hills
In the evening as the sun set aglow?
He was longing for that someone who might know the way he feels
From some episode of years and years ago.
How he'd gone to extremes
Chasing drifting, fading dreams,
And thought he held the future in his hand.
Those days of fun and little pain
May never more come back again
For one too old to see his fatherland.
